Moreno Valley is a city located in Riverside County, California and is part of the San Bernardino-Riverside Metropolitan Area; the city is 19 miles south of downtown San Bernardino, while Riverside lies directly to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 51.5 square miles (133 km2), of which, 51.3 square miles (133 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it is water. A relatively young city, its rapid growth from the 1980s to the early 2000s made it the second-largest city in Riverside County by population, and one of the Inland Empire's population centers. As of the 2010 census, the city's population was 193,365. Neighboring Riverside, California, is the county seat and largest city in the county and the two cities are closely tied. Located just north of Lake Perris, Moreno Valley shares March Joint Air Reserve Base with both Riverside, California, and the city of Perris.
